My BestBuy.com Saga

July 28th, 2009 · No Comments

Back in June I decided to buy a fridge for my new house. My house is in an older part of town, so I needed a ‘counter-depth’ model. My wife went to a local Best Buy which told her that counter depth fridges were seldom kept in local inventory and should be bought from BestBuy.com.

June 22nd:  We selected and paid for a fridge. My new Best Buy credit card was charged for the entire amount of the purchase and I am given a ‘confirmed delivery date’ of July 8th.

July 8th: No fridge. I called the help number, which referred me to the local Houston delivery center, where manager Paul promised to look into the matter and let me know what was going on. I gave him my phone number and he never called me back.

July 14th: I get an email from BestBuy.com ‘confirming’ a delivery for July 16th.

July 15th: I get an email from BestBuy.com telling me that they have moved my delivery date to July 23rd.  I call the Houston Delivery Center. They promise to investigate and call back. They never do.

July 25th: I get an automated email telling me to expect my fridge on July 28th. I call the Houston Delivery Center. They promise to investigate and call back. They never do.

July 27th: I get an automated email telling me to expect my fridge on August 11th. I call the Houston Delivery Center which now knows me. They suggest I cancel my order. I do.

My current challenge is that I opened a Best Buy credit card account specifically to buy this fridge. So much time has passed that I have already gotten a statement and started paying for the fridge (it was a 0 interest deal). Lord knows how I am going to get that money back as I never intend on using BestBuy.com again!

UPDATE 7/29/9: I got a phone call from the CEO’s office of Best Buy today profusely apologizing for the whole ordeal. They are FedEx-ing me a gift card, and I should have my fridge tomorrow.

UPDATE 7/30/9: I now own a fridge, and my wallet is a lot less light. Of course the installers refused to setup the icemaker! Its working now, and I am glad to put this behind me. I hope the credit card thing sorts itself out.
